Mapping Network Drives on Succesful LAN Connection

Mapping Network Drives:

After setting up your LAN connection, it may become necessary to access some specific folders or drives on the network all the time. To achieve this windows operating system has a beautiful feature called
Map Network Drive. Using this feature you can link to the directories/folders on other computers on your LAN and make them appear on your "My Computer" section. You need to do this only once and you are all set. The following tutorial will explain on how to acheive this.

Tutorial:

Note: Before following this tutorial, make sure you satisfy the following requirements.

#1..You should have a proper working LAN Connection between your computer and other computers on your network.

#2..You should have enabled sharing on all the folders (which you want to be chared or accessed regularly) on the remote computer. You can look at the tutorials on LAN Connection at Home Using Router (Vista) or LAN Connection at Home Using Router (XP) to learn about how to enable sharing on folders or drives on the network.

Step1: Select my computer icon on your desktop and right click to get the menu as shown on the left side picture. Now select the Map Network Drive link.

Step2: If you are mapping a drive on your network, then assign a drive letter from the drop down menu. Then click the browse button.

Make sure "Reconnect at logon" option is checked.

Step3: You will see a screen as shown on the left hand side. All the network computers will be listed here. On the picture it is shown by a red circle. Now click on the network computer and you will see all the shared folders/crives from that computer. Now you can link this file.

Step4: Now go to "My Computer" and you will see the folders/drives from remote computer listed under Network Location. As long as you have succesful LAN connection, you will the drives/folders from remote computer all the time. If you were able to access these folders then it means your LAN connection is working just fine.
