CONNECTING PS3 TO PC in LAN
Connecting PS3 (and/or sony HDTV) to your network computers using Windows Media Server
If you have a PS3 (or sony HDTV) system at home, then you can connect your computer and PS3 on the LAN system. In this way you can transfer your music, pictures and movie files to your PS3 system. The procedure to connect your PS3 on your network computers is listed below. This method can also be used to interface your sony HDTV (models with LAN connection enabled).
Enabling media server on your PS3
First connect your PS3 to your LAN network. I hope everyone knows how to achieve this. If not just go to your
1..Settings-->Network Settings-->Internet connection (enable the internet connection)
2..Settings-->Network Settings-->Internet connection Settings (set up your internet connection here)
Once you succesfully set this up, follow step 3
3..Settings-->Network Settings-->Media Server Connection (enable this option).
Now we enabled the media connection on PS3. The next step is to enable media connection on your computer.
You will need windows media player version 11 or higher (latest version) installed on your system to do this. you can get this from microsoft website. If you have firewall on your system, then please turn this off for the time being. You can turn it on later.
Note: You may have to include the PS3 IP address to your firewall software to allow communication once you turn on your firewall later.
4..Checking your windows media player version
If you are unsure about your windows media player version, the under the "Help" menu, click the "About windows media player" link. For version 11, you will see the image on the left.
5..Enabling Media Sharing on your PC
Under the "tools" menu, click options, then under the Library tab (picture shown on the left), click the "Configure Sharing" button.
6..Finding the PS3 (Unknown device)
Now after clicking the "Find media that others are sharing" and "Share media to" boxes, you should be able to see an unknows device, which is nothing but your PS3. you should allow this device for media sharing. once it is allowed you should see the green enabled tick sign on top of the icon.
Hint: If you dont see Unknown device, then disable your firewall (if you have one enabled on your computer) and then try again.
7..Assigning Name to your computer
Onthe same window above, click the "Settings" button. Then you should get the window on the left. Now on the share media as box, assign name to this computer (example: jack laptop), so that you can differentiate/recognize different computers on your PS3.
8..Finding your computer on your PS3
Once all the above steps are over, then PS3 system will list your computer under picture, music and movie categories.
9..Start Sharing Media
Create playlists on your windows media player 11, which then pops up on your PS3.
